Washington Commanders head coach Coach Quinn has admitted he shares some the fault for a major injury to the team’s quarterback, Jayden Daniels.
Details of the Injury and Context
Daniels, who enjoyed among the best first-year performances in history last season, suffered a dislocated elbow joint in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks. Even though Daniels passes with his dominant arm, the injury has left his campaign in doubt. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage did not show repeats and several athletes looked away as Daniels was attended to by medical staff.
Backlash and Leader’s Response
Quinn came under criticism as numerous felt Daniels should not have been on the field to begin with. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter with the Washington behind 38-7, making a recovery improbable. It is common in such circumstances for teams to put in their reserve QB to avoid injuries to their starter.
“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, man, I missed it,” Quinn remarked of his decision to keep Daniels in the match. “This is 100% on me.”
Aftermath and Team Prospects
Marcus Mariota will be the Commanders’ starting quarterback from now on, but he will guide a roster in turmoil. After making the NFC championship game the prior year thanks to the rookie’s brilliance, the franchise have struggled currently. They also saw injuries to defensive back Lattimore (torn ACL) and pass-catcher Luke McCaffrey (collarbone fracture) on Sunday, and have a number of other key players on injured reserve. The Commanders are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would require a huge turnaround for the team to reach the postseason.
